Though Goldie's isn't new to 3rd St, we finally had a chance to come in for a lovely weekday lunch. Sitting on a quieter stretch of the bustling street, Goldie's* is an LA staple in the making with a big, open patio, Verve coffee, and a bright, woodsy interior. The cuisine is modern, local, seasonal, and distinctly Californian, with a selection of favorites like Avocado Toast and a Kale Salad, and heartier choices like a Fried Egg Sandwich and Fried Chicken. Click through the slideshow below to check out the lovely interior.
We were informed that the Avocado Toast was one of the popular menu items, so we decided to try it out. The avocado was substantial and creamy, and the bread was delicious and perfectly toasted. The smoked chili flakes gave the dish a nice little kick and punch of flavor, while the side salad was really fresh and perfectly dressed.
Up next, we ordered the Apple Tartine, which was a toast with prosciutto, apple, and mascarpone. This was another really fun toast; the proscuitto added a nice meaty, fattiness, while the apple and drizzled honey kept it light and sweet.
Kyle ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich, which was definitely a highlight. The chicken was cut thin and fried to perfection: crispy, crunchy, and not greasy. The bun was lightly toasted, and the sandwich overall was surprisingly light and really delicious. The fries were great too! A really fun and tasty lunch option.
And to balance out that fried chicken, we also got the kale salad. I know, I know-- it's so cliché, but this was actually one of the best kale salads that I've had. The kale was really tender, and a lot of the bitterness seemed to be tempered by some of the accoutrements. The crispy quinoa was a fun addition to the salad, and added a nice crunchy element. I really enjoyed the bites of kohlrabi and pecorino as well. A healthy but delicious option for those who want a lighter lunch.
Overall, it was a great lunch! They have some really great menu options for those who want a more satisfying lunch, a working lunch, or even a lighter lunch. Though 3rd St. has plenty of great lunch options, we highly recommend Goldie's for something low-key and tasty.
