If you're like me, you probably spent these recent rainy days inside, watching Netflix and enjoying the brief reprieve from what will probably be a very warm Spring. And what better way to enjoy the rain, banish that winter skin, and prep yourself for Spring (and Coachella) than with an at-home facial? Every once in awhile, I like to set aside a little me time to indulge my skin and relax. Usually this includes candles, a bathtub, and a stock of face masks, serums, and creams that could rival your local Sephora. For this pamper session, I've partnered up with Rodan + Fields* for a seamless mini-facial that's as easy as it is effective. Founded by Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields (the ladies behind a little brand called Proactiv), R+F is a fast growing company that focuses on anti-aging products and simple regimens. I gave myself this lovely facial on a Sunday evening. First, I lit some candles (love my Diptyque and By Rosie Jane scents). I made sure to remove my make-up with my micellar water, and cleansed with my typical, everyday cleanser. Then, I got to work.
First, I indulged in some much-needed exfoliation with the Enhancements Micro-Dermabrasion Paste. The paste was a really thick, balm-like texture. I added a bit of water before gently scrubbing it on my face. Though it's definitely an effective exfoliant, it wasn't too harsh and easily sloughed away my dead, winter skin. The oil-free formula worked well for my break-out prone skin, and left it feeling insanely soft (which was nice to know wasn't from the kind of oily residue left over by a lot of other scrubs). It was the perfect first step to get rid of dead skin cells and leave my face ready to absorb the next products.
After the necessary exfoliation, I moved on to the serum step. The serum is, for some reason, the one step in a skincare routine that I frequently forget. I usually cleanse, tone, and move right along to moisturizers and oils. But many skincare junkies believe that serums are the step that do all the work, so I was excited to try out this Redefine Night Renewing Serum. The serum comes perfectly portioned out into convenient, bright blue capsules. Pop one open, and that's all you need for your whole face. With skin-firming, collagen-boosting peptides, the serum is formulated specifically for anti-aging concerns. However, the added retinol is also great for improving skin texture and brightening (but still managed to be gentle enough for my sensitive skin). The serum went on smoothly and left a silky finish on my skin. I followed up the serum with my usual, nighttime moisturizer to seal it in.
One of my favorite steps in the facial, the Redefine Lip Renewing Serum was exactly the kind of attention my dry, cracked winter lips needed. Though I spend the day slathering on Aquaphor, finding a serum dedicated to retaining my lips' natural moisture was a real treat. With peptides, antioxidants, and vitamin E, the serum had a silky, moisturizing finish. I applied a bit of Aquaphor on top as a sort of sealant.
The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and relaxed. My skin felt soft and definitely looked brighter; the dull, winter skin was no more, and some of the red spots left over from past breakouts had been visibly reduced. Even my cracked, winter lips felt more moisturized and plumped up! Easy and quick, this 3-step mini-facial might just become my Sunday evening ritual this Spring.
Thanks to Rodan + Fields for partnering with me on this post!
