Staycation Attire

May 28, 2018 Marissa Pomerance

When was the last time you took a staycation? Either booked a hotel/AirBnB in your city or just spent a weekend at home pretending you were on vacay? LA is such a popular tourist destination, and we have some amazing hotels, so why shouldn't a local get to experience them? Recently, I spent a night at the Intercontinental at Century City; though Century City isn't exactly the tourist hotspot of L.A., I nevertheless had a great time, enjoying room service, hotel eats, and of course, shopping at Westfield Century City. To dress for the occasion, I brought my vacation attire home, layering on my go-to denim jacket and silk scarf over a breezy pink wrap dress.

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting LASIK Surgery

April 27, 2018 Marissa Pomerance
_Desk 1.jpg

I've always regarded this website as a city guide for ALL things Los Angeles, and while it usually veers towards food, fashion, beauty, events, and the like, occasionally it takes me to places I never thought I'd go. Recently, one of those places was the Maloney Vision Institute on Wilshire, where I received a consultation for LASIK surgery, which might not seem like a crazy thing to do. Except that I have, well, 20/20 vision. But even though I'm not personally a candidate for LASIK (yet), I've always been surrounded by the vision-impaired; my parents, my sister, my boyfriend, and many of my close friends all wear glasses or contacts on a day-to-day basis. From their frequent eye doctor appointments to finding the right glasses (which are always expensive), ordering contacts, and dealing with the potential risks of wearing contacts day-in and day-out for years, I've sat idly by, witnessing them struggle with their vision problems. Plenty of them have considered getting LASIK, and I've always wondered what held them back. So I decided to do a bit of research on their behalf, learning more about this common procedure and the best place to get it done in Los Angeles.

The 5 Essential LA Events to Bookmark for November

Though I'm still processing last night's devastating Dodger loss, the end of Halloween, and the sudden shift to cool, rainy weather (seriously, how is it November already?), I'm trying to look ahead at all the good things to come. Namely, the infinite events that seem to take over LA during the Fall season. Apple picking, pumpkin patches, hay rides...are all things I didn't include on this list. No, unsurprisingly, my favorite fall events usually revolve around hot food. So below are the 5 events I'm most looking forward to this month, and there are even a few here that aren't solely about eating!

Brunch. Here. Now : The Ponte on Beverly

August 8, 2017 Marissa Pomerance

It's always a sad affair when any restaurant closes, but when that restaurant was local favorite Terrine, it's an especially tough loss. The 2-year old space officially shuttered New Years, but quickly flipped into The Ponte, a new concept for Chopped judge and former Scarpetta chef Scott Conant, who's bringing some Italian flare to this former French brasserie. In addition to the menu, restaurateur Stephane Bombet also flipped the space, ushering in a mid-century modern look with serious Mad Men vibes. But don't worry; they haven't done away with the beautiful back patio (they would be crazy to), remaining one of the best outdoor dining choices in the city. We popped in for brunch recently, and enjoyed their Italian take on standard brunch fare in addition to some classic Conant offerings (the Pasta al Pomodoro is his signature).
