Let's Do The Polka

November 1, 2018 Marissa Pomerance

Polka dots always seemed to me like a pattern best fit for 50’s housewives, Minnie Mouse, and Betty Boop; don’t get me wrong— each of those women is a fashion icon in her own right, just maybe not my fashion icon. Needless to say, I’ve never been a huge fan of the pattern, until I found this graphic, dotted, flowy dress that’s equal parts cool, feminine, and comfortable. Win, win, and win.

Jumping Into Adulthood

October 4, 2018 Marissa Pomerance

I have this vision of myself when I’m a real “grown up” (lol I’m 26 but whatevs) where I’m a total boss marching around in amazing shoes and power suits. In this vision of my future self, I always seem to have time to do my hair and make-up perfectly, and I suddenly find power suits and Louboutin heels comfortable for daily wear. But hey, a girl can dream, right? As I’m not quite there yet I’ll settle for jumpsuits, which are somewhere between a baby-onesie and a power suit…which is also an apt description for where I currently am in life.

Where The City Meets The Sea

August 23, 2018 Marissa Pomerance

In a classic example of "don't get your hopes up," tourists visiting LA for the first time are frequently disappointed with what they discover, which is that LA rarely lives up to their ridiculously high expectations. Hollywood is just Times Square + movies + a trash heap, and our "tourist" activities leave much to be desired. However, one of the weirdest expectations tourists have of LA is that they think it'll be just like New York, but on a beautiful beach. They're surprised by the vastness of our sprawl, and how so little of LA looks like a "city" in the most obvious sense of the word. The truth is that our Downtown is many, many miles from the beach, creating completely unique, fractionalized neighborhoods that confuse tourists but are crucial to the complex, beautiful mosaic that makes up this city. I understand their disappointment, though, which is why I thought I'd bring a little seaside inspiration to the streets of Downtown, wearing an ocean-inspired wrap dress against the bustling backdrop of DTLA. To me, this encapsulates the many contrasts of Los Angeles; the natural and the manmade, the color and the bleakness, the shining and the dull. We're a city of endless contradictions, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Say Goodbye to Digital Eye Strain with Felix Gray

August 1, 2018 Marissa Pomerance

One of the unfortunate truths of being a full-time blogger is that I spend way more time on my electronic devices than I would care to admit. Anytime I'm home, at my co-working space, or at a coffee shop, my eyes are glued to my laptop; and when they're not, they're fixated on my phone. What can I say? I'm a millennial-- being addicted to devices is what we're most famous for. My job also revolves around the internet and digital world, so I couldn't really help if it I tried. All of this is to say that, unsurprisingly, my eyes get tired at the end of the day. This means that I'm prone to eye fatigue, device-induced headaches, and blurred vision. I also have a nasty habit of checking said devices before I go to bed, causing my eyes to feel wide awake even when my body is exhausted and trying to sleep. Has that happened to you too?

The Versatile Summer Dress from Everlane

July 31, 2018 Marissa Pomerance

When it's this hot out, it's really hard to put on any clothes at all. All I want to do is just sit in an air conditioned room in loose, cool, comfy clothes-- although, to be honest, I'm not sure if that's a seasonal desire since I enjoy this activity year round. But life doesn't stop moving forward because of the temps outside, and this summer has been as busy as ever. This means that having a few go-to outfits to force myself into when I want to look and feel cool is key, including this lightweight wrap dress from one of my favorite brands, Everlane. It comes in a shorter length as well, but this midi style is great for dressing up and down, and allows me to feel a bit more covered up when I want to be more casual or professional. Also, this Poppy Red is a surprisingly versatile hue; not only is it different than my go-to black and white, but it's also fun and vibrant for summer! To dress it up, I paired it with these statement Kat Maconie heels and new everyday bag from Senreve.
