What this city lacks in bar-hopping potential (this is becoming easier thanks to Uber and Lyft), it makes up for in wonderful cocktail bars. A few months back, we stumbled onto one of these hidden gems by a happy accident (the place would have been a complete mystery had it not been for the line outside). Because of its nondescript exterior, we were pleasantly surprised by the cozy, vintage decor; the brick walls were lined with leather booths, while the dark wood gave it an intimate, speakeasy feel. The menu features an extensive whiskey list and delicious cocktails, including two popular standouts-- The Westside (vodka, orgeat, lime, cucumber, mint, and bitters) and The Blackberry Honey Sour (bourbon, blackberry, honey lemon)-- which were well-crafted, fresh, and nicely balanced. After a successful night out, The Chestnut Club has become a go-to spot for our Santa Monica outings.
