If there has ever been a singular truth about the LA food scene, it is that currently, there are SO. MANY. OPTIONS. It's overwhelming to start thinking about the new, hot places opening every month that we somehow have to fit into our busy schedules and stretched-too-thin budgets. Well, since we feel your pain and anxiety (#foodieproblems), we've put together a tight list of 5 places on our current wishlist. While there are so many places to eat at right now, these are the 5 that we're currently lusting after.
1. For Fusion Fare : Cassia
Santa Monica's new critical darling, Cassia boasts French-Vietnamese cuisine from Bryant and Kim Ng. Part of the Rustic Canyon-Milo & Olive-Huckleberry family (of which we're huge fans), Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan's new venture has garnered virtually only positive reviews. We can't believe we haven't made reservations yet.
2. For a Posh Brunch : Viviane
Another winning spot from Stephane Bombet (Terrine, Hanjip), Viviane is both a foodie and Insta-celeb's dream. Beautifully designed by Kelly Wearstler, the restaurant features California-influenced European and American cuisine. We've heard great things, and that it's beautiful surroundings are matched only by the fantastic food.
3. For a Beachside Brunch: Leona
As an LA native, it's been impressive to see the transformation of Venice's dining scene. And now that transformation includes Leona, a seasonally driven California restaurant that has quickly become known for its beautiful brunch offerings. And really, can it get much better than great food just steps from the beach?
4. For a Working Lunch : Otium
The Broad's new upscale dining spot, Otium just opened with little fanfare on Bunker Hill. With a refined and sleek design, Otium is helmed by Chef Timothy Hollingsworth, whose pedigree includes a stint as Chef de Cuisine at THE French Laundry. Considered by some one of the city's most anticipated openings this year, it will make a great spot for cultured Broad Museum go-ers and foodies alike.
5. For a Casual Sawtelle Spot : Seoul Sausage
On Sawtelle in bustling "Little Osaka," Seoul Sausage is a casual spot from Chef Chris Oh (Hanjip) that prides itself on soulful Korean street food. Serving a meaty mix of sausages, burgers, and even poutine, this seems like a great spot for a casual after-work bite. Though its been open for a bit, after our trip to Hanjip, we've got to try Seoul Sausage.
