With the influx in cool, upscale coffee shops in LA, you think there would be endless spaces to sit on a cozy couch, plug in your computer, connect to some free wifi, and get some serious work done. But unfortunately, more often than not, I stumble into the newest coffee-shop-du-jour to find no wifi, no outlets, and no comfortable seats. Some of these new coffee shops clearly don't actually want people to stay and bring their laptops-- though I understand why, Angelenos need someplace to go to curl up with their laptop. And though we have nothing against working from Starbucks, wouldn't it be great if some of these trendy new coffee shops offered some free wifi and outlets? Thankfully, a few of them do, and we've rounded up our 5 favorites below. Grab your laptop and work away!
1. Alfred Coffee & Kitchen, Melrose Pl
One of the leaders of LA's cool coffee movement, Alfred on Melrose Pl is a small but intimate shop that provides great coffee, juices, and pastries. Chic and trendy as it is, it still provides free wifi and an assortment of outlets, even if the seating is somewhat limited. People are always working at Alfred, so whipping out a laptop and charger won't be out of place here.
2. Verve Coffee Roasters, Melrose
With multiple locations all over the city, Verve is definitely one of LA's hottest coffee spots. Its large, airy interiors, ample seating, and free wifi make this a great place to settle down for a bit of work.
3. The Classic Coffee, Downtown LA
Recently expanding into two stories, The Classic Coffee is a modern spot that jazzes up the Fashion District in Downtown. Though the beautifully decorated space seems like an Insta-celeb's dream, its the unpretentious atmosphere and cozy seating that make this a perfect place to work.
4. Love Coffee Bar, Ocean Park Ave
Part of the revival of Ocean Park Blvd., Love Coffee Bar is a cute, unpretentious spot that serves great coffee in a minimal, California-focused space. Featuring roasts from Copa Vida, the low-key environment features free wifi, making it an ideal spot for locals to come hang out.
5. Groundwork Coffee, Montana
Though the Groundwork Coffee location on Larchmont specifically put all of their outlets on the ceiling, doesn't have free wifi, and only has 2 seats inside (we get it-- you don't want us sticking around), the location on Montana is a bit more hospitable. Free wifi, a tasty menu, and much more seating, this place is a chic and cool place to hang out and do some work...if you can find a seat. It's usually full of laptop-wielders, lunch-eaters, and coffee meetings, so come early to snag a table!
