You've probably all heard the hype around Bestia. It's undoubtedly one of the most talked about and hyped restaurants of the moment. Nestled in an industrial building in Downtown's Art District, Bestia's interior has that raw, urban look that's incredibly popular at the moment. But don't think that Bestia is all scene, and no substance. It's definitely a destination, and the packed tables indicate that people are willing to trek from all over LA to taste it's incredible food. A venture by restauranteur Bill Chait, Angelini Osteria's Ori Menashe is serving thoughtful Italian food that focuses on high quality ingredients by California farmers. Definitely make a reservation-- you won't be able to get in without one!
Though the antipasti menu is full of such sumptuous choices as Butter Poached Lobster and Roasted Bone Marrow, we decided to start out light with Genevieve's Little Gems salad. And though it may be just a salad, it sure was a delicious one. The lettuce, herbs, radish, and shallots all tasted incredibly fresh, while the salad was perfectly dressed with a light, sweet, and tangy dressing. Simple, but lovely start to the meal.
The Foie Gras Terrine was a new addition to the menu, and we're so glad we got there in time to try it. The Foie Gras was fatty and delicious, while the brioche just melts in the mouth. The little strawberries were a nice sweet addition to round out the dish.
The warm octopus and calamari salad was a really nice dish. The octopus and calamari were both cooked perfectly: tender, flavorful, and juicy. The lightly dressed arugula, fennel, and chili lemon vinaigrette paired nicely with the octopus, and the warm and cold elements were really nice.
The cavatelli is one of those dishes that just inspires major foodgasms. Ricotto dumplings were really delicious, and had a nice chew to them. The housemade pork sausage was insane-- tender and perfectly seasoned. The little bit of black truffles added that umami element that made this dish feel like a real guilty treat. One of the best moments of the night!
The pizza was sooo goood. Again, the pork sausage was wonderful. The crust and dough were perfectly cooked, and the ricotta and honey added a nice sweetness to the pizza. This is not your typical pizza, but it's delicious nonetheless.
The chocolate budino tart was another mouthgasm. The chocolate filling was incredibly creamy and rich, while the salted caramel, sea salt, and olive oil gave this dessert the perfect combination of sweet and saltiness. Until I can come back for more, I will continue to have dreams about this dessert.
Overall, the experience was fantastic. The food lived up to all the hype, and the fresh, high-quality ingredients were evident in every bite. The service was also fantastic, and the big, beautiful environment definitely helped make this an unforgettable experience. Hopefully, we'll be back...once we can luck into getting another reservation!
