Making health-related resolutions is always a tough challenge, and oftentimes, we find ourselves giving up before we even begin. Changing habits takes time-- sometimes, months (or years) to actually implement--and it's easy to become frustrated when we don't see results overnight. I still constantly struggle with this impatience in terms of my health; though I'm admittedly a pretty healthy almost-25-year-old, I know I could be working out more and eating better. So last year, in an attempt to make resolutions I could actually keep, I set myself small, achievable goals that allow for incremental but lasting change. One of these was to find workouts that I actually enjoy and incorporate them into a more consistent and robust fitness routine. Though the idea of simply trying out classes and finding ones that I didn't hate doesn't seem like much of a stretch, I knew that it was an important place to start if a consistent fitness routine was to become habit. And after a year of exploring the city, experimenting, and making good use of that Classpass membership, I'm happy to report that this is one resolution I most definitely kept. It's been tough, and I'm still working on that "routine" part, but I managed to find a ton of fun fitness classes that I even occasionally look forward to attending. I now average 2-4 classes a week, and feel stronger and healthier than ever. So if you made any health-related resolutions that you hope will stick, I recommend checking out these 3 fitness studios for fun and effective classes that might actually encourage you to come back.
1. Rev Pilates : Woodland Hills
This cute, intimate studio tucked away in Woodland Hills is the perfect place to start your fitness journey. You'll get plenty of individualized attention by their excellent and super-sweet instructors, who will tailor the workout to your needs and fitness level. And for those who want to get in a good workout and feel the burn without feeling like you're going to keel over, classical Pilates is totally the way to go. Not to mention, the Rev Pilates method aims for long, lean muscles and a beautifully toned physique.
2. PlateFit : Brentwood & West Hollywood
Utilizing the technology of the vibrational Power Plate, PlateFit in Brentwood and West Hollywood promises a calorie-torching, full-body workout in just 30 minutes. If you're already thinking that this sounds waayyy too intense for you (I typically stay away from classes with words like "torching," "shredding," and anything in ALL CAPS in the description), don't be alarmed. It's definitely a challenge, but works well for all fitness levels...and did we mention it's only 30 minutes? So at least it's over pretty quickly. Classes like "HIIT-FIT (Glutes/Abs)" tone and sculpt your body parts through a series of High Intensity Interval Training exercises that are quick and effective. We also seriously recommend sticking around for the CelluliteFIT/RecoveryFIT class: 30 minutes of deep stretching and relaxation that will banish all remaining soreness.
3. YogaWorks : Everywhere
Yes yes, I'm sure you're all very much aware of this Yoga franchise that is allll over L.A. But in case you don't fancy yourself much of a yogi (I don't) and are looking for something a bit more heart-pumping to get your fitness routine going, many Yogaworks studios offer a varied roster of classes including BarWorks, TRX, and Pilates Mat. So far, I've really enjoyed all the TRX and BarWorks classes that I've taken; they're great for all levels, and the instructors provide plenty of modification options to make the workouts easier or more challenging depending on your abilities. As, like I said, they have studios everywhere, popping into your local Yogaworks for one of these yoga-alternatives is an easy way to stick to your resolutions.
