Though the holiday season is supposed to be "the most wonderful time of the year," it's also apparently one of the most stressful. Visits by less-than-friendly family members, the forced merriment, and watching your bank account quickly deplete as you buy gifts for everyone in your life are most likely a few of the culprits of holiday stress. Because you braved the crowds at the mall and spent all your money on your friends and family, you deserve to give yourself a little something special for all your hard work, so we recommend treating yourself to a little day at the spa. Recently, I took a lovely trip to the boutique Larchmont Sanctuary Spa, which offers massage therapy, anti-aging treatments, organic facials, detoxifying body treatments and acupuncture in a luxurious, yet relaxed atmosphere.
Known for romantic couples packages and their custom copper hydrotherapy tub built for two, the Larchmont Sanctuary Spa is a beautiful little bungalow nestled amidst the restaurants, fitness studios, and shops in Larchmont Village. It's a small and cozy space, but designed to feel like an intimate, bohemian-chic sanctuary. Their small locker room has cozy robes, showers, and is fully stocked with all the necessary bath-and-body amenities to prep for your treatment or freshen up afterwards, while the main waiting area features plenty of comfy seating, tea, juice, and healthy snacks. Every member of staff that I encountered was kind, friendly, helpful, and entirely professional, making the whole experience seamless and relaxing.
I was lucky enough to receive the 90-minute Himalayan Salt Stone Massage, a full body massage using warmed Salt Stones that is designed to reduce inflammation, relax muscles, and energize the skin. According to the spa, "the Salt Stones...contain 84 trace minerals that ground and balance the body’s electromagnetic field, central nervous system and meridians." Well, I'm not sure if my body's electromagnetic field was balanced, but I definitely enjoyed the treatment. The stones were warm and smooth, but actually still maintained a slightly salty texture that gently exfoliated my skin without irritating it. The therapist moved slowly, listened carefully (and was responsive) to my requests, and was clearly in tune with which parts of my body were the most tense and needed the most work.
The stone massage was definitely one of the most relaxing treatments I've had recently, and I would certainly come back anytime. Idyllic for a spa day with friends or just a nice way to treat yourself, the Larchmont Sanctuary Spa also has some great specials and gift packages in case you do still need/want to get a luxurious present for someone important in your life.
