Coachella might totally overtake the month of April, but come May, Angelenos have recovered and are ready for a fresh slate of new events. This month, the city's event planners are definitely embracing outdoor adventures and seasonal bites; from competitive cocktails to rooftop wieners to movies at a cemetery, this month's line-up is truly epic. If you have to turn off Netflix and get out of bed anyways, do it for a good reason, and check out these great occasions.
1. Kimchi & Wieners: Upstairs at the Ace Hotel, May 22nd
The Ace Hotel is always a hot locale for Spring and Summer events, so you know we're ready to RSVP "yes" to pretty much any soirée they throw. Celebrating the launch of The Wurst of Lucky Peach (this is a book, apparently), The Ace Hotel is teaming up Lucky Peach, Moo, Williams Sonoma, and one of our faves, Hanjip, for a Korean BBQ sausage fest. With music, beer, and the works, this is not to be missed. Get the deets and your tix here.
2. The May Mix-Off Finals: The Mixing Room at the J.W. Marriott L.A. Live, May 25th
Though it's been going on all month long, The May Mix-Off at The Mixing Room is culminating in an epic competition on May 25th at the J.W. Marriott Downtown. Not only is this event FREE and open to the public, but you get to experience an Iron-Chef style, mystery ingredient-driven challenge that pits the city's best mixologists against each other. For more info, check out the event
3. Cinespia's Singin' In the Rain: Hollywood Forever Cemetary, May 28th
Understandably, people who aren't from L.A. don't really get the whole "watch a movie at the cemetery" thing. But Cinespia's outdoor screening series has basically reached cult status among the city's cinephiles after 15 years (!!) running. Their line-up this season is full of classics, from Mean Girls to Goodfellas. We're particularly looking forward to the May 28th screening of Singin' In the Rain (I've never seen it!).
4. Late Nights @ Grand Central Market, Starting June 3rd
There have been at least 2 occasions in which Kyle and I have gone to Grand Central Market hoping to get Eggslut for dinner, only to be harshly reminded that it wasn't open. Well luckily, GCM answered our silent prayers, instituting later closing times, happy hours, and dinner specials beginning June 3rd and running until September 22nd. And in case that's not enough, throw a food party with DJ's on Friday nights, live music on Saturday and Sunday's, and flea markets every month. Find out more here, and start getting your #squad together.
