There are some that believe Plan Check boasts the best burgers in LA (aside from In N Out-- let's not get into that debate); others vehemently deny this point-of-view, only adding fuel to the fire that is The Great Burger Debate of LA. Whose burger reigns supreme? We may never know. If there's one thing we can all agree on though, it's that Plan Check has launched brunch and it. is. good. In a move that is surprising to no one, their new brunch menu features the kind of decadence and indulgence that your hungover self craves on any given Sunday afternoon, with options that are focused on meat, cheese, and frying the shit out of dough and chicken. Yes, that is their Fried Chicken & Crullers: smoky fried Jidori chicken and maple bacon cruller donuts. Please note that to partake, you must be ready to ingest all of the food, and definitely stay away if you're looking for something light and healthy. You will not find it amongst cheesy hash brows and pork belly benedict. But...I mean...who gives a flying fuck about being healthy when there are Captain Crunch and Cereal Milk Doughnuts?
Part of our brunch tasting included a look at their PomPomPurin + Chococat take-over (which, for your reference, are popular and adorable Sanrio characters), hence the cute little cartoon faces that are featured in our food. The chefs at Plan Check created dishes specifically inspired by these characters, and will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the month-long takeover to L.A. Love & Leashes. Keep scrolling to take a peek at all their delicious brunch options.
From their Sanrio take-over, the Vanilla Cream Soda was pretty much the drink of all your childhood dreams. The cream on top was thick and sweet, while the soda (still sweet and tinged with that vanilla flavor) was actually pretty light. Unsurprisingly, Kyle's massive sweet tooth really appreciate this drink.
Though its on their regular menu as well, the Pastrami Nosh is really a dish that can be perfect for brunch. The fried egg on top, the meaty double smoked pastrami on the inside; it has all the makings of a satisfying hangover cure. I love the addition of the melty cheese (necessary) and kimchi mustard, which cuts through all the richness nicely.
A great example of Plan Check's signature style, the Egg Sandwich managed to be both incredibly indulgent and surprisingly light at the same time. Thanks to the flaky (but not dry) buttermilk biscuit, the cheesy scrambled eggs and bacon weren't lost among heaps of bread. Featuring their signature ketchup leather, it was a really tasty sandwich.
Definitely one of the most indulgent dishes, the Fried Chicken & Crullers is similar to a fried chicken and waffles, except replace that basic and boring waffle with a maple bacon donut. You know, in case you need more fried food. But seriously, this dish was ridiculously good.
Oh, and in case you need more donuts, why not make every one of your childhood dreams come to life via a Captain Crunch and cereal milk frosted donut?
