Undoubtedly one of the best additions to The San Fernando Valley since the opening of Scratch Bar, the new Village at Westfield's Topanga is a breath of fresh air amongst the industrial-looking strip malls of Canoga Park. A haven filled with colorful outdoor seating, plenty of greenery, and contemporary decor, The Village also boasts great spots like Sushi Katsu-ya, Pressed Juicery, Susie Cakes, Dry Bar, Burke Williams, Go Greek, Fleurish Flower Bar, and many more. And while it's a fantastic place to grab a bite and take a leisurely stroll, it's an even better place to get some serious shopping (and pampering!) done. I particularly love checking out their boutiques, many of which eschew the prototypical mall offerings by focusing on local designers, contemporary brands, and more specialized merchandise. Over the next few months, I'll be telling you all about my favorite spots, how to visit, and what to buy! Below, a few favorites of the moment.
A local staple, Jet by John Eshaya rose to prominence in the 90's and early 2000's from it's placement in hotspot boutique Fred Segal. His ridiculously soft and sumptuous sweatshirts sent shoppers into a frenzy, while his elevated basics continue to impress local Angelenos who live in their jeans. Their new store at The Village certainly does justice to this hot L.A. brand, showcasing their on-trend jeans, relaxed-cool tees, and comfy body-con dresses. I particularly loved this white option; fresh and cool for the summer, it can easily be dressed up with a pair of heels and dressed down with this white denim jacket.
For an experience that's more high-tea than jeans-and-tee, check out Varga for all your femme fatale needs. The store is part sweet, part modern pin-up, with everything from studded bustiers to floral midi-skirts (I loved this one for summer). Paired with a halter knit tank (which I love with just about everything), they give you plenty of options for edging up your look-- like with this super on-trend black choker. With a selection of sunglasses that basically can't be beat, Varga is the perfect choice for a unique piece that rounds out your closet, or finding a cute gift for an accessory-loving friend.
Finally, another favorite of mine is the Village outpost of make-up and beauty lounge, Blushington. With locations in Newport, West Hollywood, Dallas, and New York, this beautiful, modern space is dedicated to brow maintenance, on-the-go facials, but mostly providing an excellent make-up application. What sets them apart from experiences at Department Stores or Sephora is that they pull from many different brands and don't have to push certain products on their clients. Their professional make-up artists are clearly beauty enthusiasts who stay abreast of the current trends and the newest, hottest products. I came in recently to get my make-up done for a party (see the before and afters above), and couldn't have had a better experience! The make-up artist was helpful, informative, and totally attune to my needs and preferences. I felt at ease in her capable hands, and loved the black-and-silver smokey eye, light contouring, and nude matte lip that she applied (I also got so many compliments that night!). I honestly wish I could have them do my make-up everyday!
Thanks to Westfield for partnering with me on this post!
