Summer in L.A. is a special experience; though many of us will be traveling and attempting to escape the heat, those of us left in the city have an endless array of amazing events to choose from. Utilizing our ample outdoor space and capitalizing on our robust food, arts, and entertainment scenes, these July events highlight the best L.A. has to offer.
1. Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone in Concert : July 6th at The Hollywood Bowl
As a self-aware Harry Potter fanatic, I would pretty much do anything Potter related. Coming off the success of other in-concert film events (like The Little Mermaid), the Hollywood Bowl decided to take their summer series to another level of awesome, showing the first magical film with an accompaniment from the L.A. Phil, who will perform the unforgettable John Williams score. The event is TOMORROW, so if you still can, get your tickets here now! If you miss out on HP, don't worry; you can still satisfy your inner nerd at Star Trek in Concert on the 8th-9th.
2. L.A. Food Fest : July 8th-10th at Exposition Park
One of the first in the seemingly never-ending line-up of food festivals, the L.A. Food Fest is a three-day foodie extravaganza located in Exposition Park. Kicking off with a dinner in the Rose Garden, the main event will take place Saturday and Sunday afternoon and feature hundreds of food and drink vendors. Some highlights include Barcito, BOA Steakhouse, Demitasse, Fritzi Dog, Tsujita Ramen, and many more. General admission tickets are only $10, and you can get them here.
3. Inner-City Arts & 89.9 KCRW presents The 10th Annual Summer on Seventh : July 16th at 6pm
For one night this summer, the Inner-City Arts Campus will transform into party central, playing host to art lovers, local residents, and young professionals alike. With live music, food courtesy of the city's best food trucks, and an art installation, this rooftop event will donate proceeds to support the Inner-City Arts' programs that provide access to free arts education. Learn more about the event here.
4. Twilight Concerts at The Santa Monica Pier : Every Thursday at 7pm
The free concerts at The Santa Monica Pier have returned! Finally giving us an excuse to actually frequent this tourist trap, the Twilight series allows you to enjoy music from some of your favorite bands right on the water. We're particularly interested in Borns and Porches on the 14th. We suggest going to one of the many amazing restaurants in Santa Monica and grabbing a bite before ubering to the concert.
5. 626 Night Market : July 22nd-24th from 4pm-1am
An Asian-themed night market now in it's 5th year of operation, 626 Night Market is a celebration of delicious food, art, crafts, small businesses, and the community. With food, merchandise, entertainment, music, the market is taking over Santa Anita Park in full force. And even better? This night market is open until 1am, giving you the chance to get your party on.
