Though I'm over 2 years out of college (*ugh*), it feels strange to not partake in the yearly ritual that is "back to school." Instead, I focus my August shopping on end-of-summer and Pre-Fall essentials (despite LA's complete and utter lack of defined seasons), looking for transitional accessories that will breathe new life into my denim shorts, sandals, and other over-used summer attire. I decided to hit up my new favorite shopping destination, The Village at Westfield Topanga, to see what new arrivals they have in store for my sad and lifeless closet. As usual, they didn't disappoint. While I was there, I hit up a few of their new stores, checking out colorful sunglasses and bags to add a little pop-of-color to my denim-heavy wardrobe. While I was there, I made sure to pop into Skin Laundry for a peek at their skincare offerings (because even my skincare routine is in desperate need of a pick-me-up), and even discovered their weekly Farmer's Market where I can do a bit of necessary grocery shopping / refresh my home with some beautiful floral arrangements. While all of their retailers are fantastic, these are the 4 spots that helped me stock up on my end-of-summer essentials:
1. Perverse Sunglasses
For any true fashionista, Perverse Sunglasses is an absolute dream come true. An entire, beautifully minimal store dedicated to ultra-cool, high quality, and on-trend sunglasses at affordable prices (ranging from about $40-$90)? Is this even real? Fortunately, my shopping experience wasn't just some Anna-Wintour-in-Wonderland fashion hallucination, but did indeed happen. A brand new company originating here in L.A, Perverse delivers a range of classic, sexy, edgy, and fashion-forward frames that are unisex and made for collecting: the Pokemon Go of sunglass stores. And will I collect them all? Well, I'll sure try.
Yes, that LeSportsac. The one that made Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. products the envy of Middle School girls everywhere. But just like you did, LeSportsac grew up and got past it's awkward stage, blossoming into a line that churns out consistently fun, functional bags that have amassed a loyal following. And my visit to their small but adorable space at The Village proved that their vision of creating lightweight, easy bags infused with upbeat prints and colorful details is still very much intact. In the spirit of back-to-school, I particularly loved their on-trend backpacks (like the striped one above), which would infuse my everyday work bag with a sense of whimsy and quirk.
3. Skin Laundry
One of the original purveyor's of the growing-in-popularity flash facial, Skin Laundry is doing things a little differently by focusing specifically on in-and-out Laser Facials. Laser and light therapy, usually treatments provided by doctors in excruciatingly long sessions with plenty of downtime, has been refined by Skin Laundry to a quick and easy 15 minutes with no downtime at all. The perfect all-encompassing facial treatment for those on-the-go who suffer from acne, redness, unevenness, dullness, hyper-pigmentation, and photo aging. I ducked in to check out the facility (did you know the first facial is free?) and try out some of their products. I even got to relax with a wonderful, moisturizing sheet mask, which is the perfect post-facial routine.
4. The Farmer's Market
A little known treat that takes place every Sunday all year from 9am-1pm, the Farmer's Market is a beautiful spot picking up your week's groceries. We stopped by to shop fresh strawberries, bouquets, and other wonderful produce.
