As you probably know, I've been working diligently (or at least kind of working) to improve my health habits over the last year, revving up my fitness routine and occasionally making better food-related choices. And as you definitely should know, I'm totally skincare obsessed. So when I found out about a product that is good for your body, overall health, and skin, I jumped at the chance to try it. Promising drinkable collagen formulas made from sustainably sourced ingredients to help us replenish our natural supply of collagen, Vital Proteins offers collagen-based products like Collagen Beauty Greens + Collagen Peptides, that repair and nourish skin for an all-natural glow from within. I tried out 3 of their products, so keep scrolling for my thoughts!
Though I've never been a huge fan of powder-based drinks (protein powders, Emergen-C, you name it), I was definitely willing to give it a shot. It took a bit of trial and error, but after a few drink mixes, smoothies, and the like, I finally got the hang of it. I started off with the Pasture-Raised, Grass-Fed Collagen Peptides Vanilla & Coconut (the collagen peptides themselves are sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised bovine hides, interestingly enough), which is supposed to support the vitality of skin, hair, tendons, cartilage, bones, and joints. The powders are supposed to be soluable in cold liquids (as well as hot). but after mixing the Collagen Peptides into my cold water bottle, I realized that this probably wasn't the best way to get the full benefits. The mild, sweet vanilla flavor (with a tiny hint of coconut) was simply watered down, and remained a bit too grainy. However, I realized that mixing the powder into a smoothie with some combination of bananas, apples, and/or strawberries along with greek yogurt, honey, and orange juice was really quite good. The smoothie itself was fruity and acidic, while the Collage Peptides added a mild sweetness and helped thicken up the drink. This combo ended up being the perfect breakfast, and a great way to add in the Collagen Peptides to my daily routine.
Possibly my favorite of the 3 I tried, the Collagen Beauty Greens is a nourishing elixir that combines marine collagen peptides with raw organic greens, hyaluronic acid, and probiotics-- pretty much all of my favorite things. I'm a big fan of hyaluronic acid (though I've mostly tried it topically), and I've been taking more probiotics of late to help with my finicky stomach. Like the previous flavor, the Collagen Beauty Greens boasts collagen to help support bones, joints, skin, etc, but I loved the addition of organic raw greens, which helped me get in my daily dose of wheat grass, spinach, kale, etc. It's also gluten free, made without artificial sweeteners, and is a great source of vitamin A! However, unlike your typical kale smoothies, this flavor thankfully didn't taste like drinking plants. Instead, it actually tasted like matcha, which made it a much better alternative to mix into my morning coffee or my daily water bottle. I still really want to try out this recipe for an Iced Matcha Latte with the Collagen Beauty Greens. Overall, this product hit all my necessities in terms of flavor and benefits.
Finally, I tried out the unflavored Collagen Peptides. Possessing the same benefits as the Vanilla & Coconut Collagen Peptides, this one is better for those who aren't a fan of vanilla or coconut. It's better for mixing into your water, morning coffee, or tea for a little boost without even noticing. It's also great for mixing into oatmeal, smoothies, sauces, and even baked goods!
Overall, my experience with Vital Proteins has been generally really positive. I definitely love the concept, and once I figured out the best use for all 3 products, it became easier to work them into my daily routine. Although I need to give the collagen-boosting effects a bit more time, I do feel that in conjunction with my current skincare routine, my skin has been looking pretty plump and moisturized of late. The flavors are nice additions to morning drinks, smoothies, and breakfast, while the benefits sound almost too good to be true. I also really appreciate the focus on sustainably sourced ingredients, and the aim to improve health from the inside out. We sometimes forget the necessity of getting in our daily dose of protein, vitamins, and greens, and Vital Proteins helps with all of those, plus boasts the additional benefits of collagen and hyaluronic acid, which are often overlooked as important components to maintaining health.
Thank you to Vital Proteins for partnering with me on this post!
