With each new season comes new openings and new hotspots to see, be seen, or you know, enjoy food, drinks, and the company of your friends in a lovely space. This year, it seems that rooftop bars are all the rage; starting with E.P. + L.P.'s splashy appearance in West Hollywood a few short years ago, to the constantly bustling scene that is Catch, local restaurateurs are finally capitalizing on LA's yearlong sunshine and warm weather to open beautiful drinking dens for watching the sunset over Sunset. Though, of course, not every bar opening this summer is of the rooftop variety-- in fact, we've found a few that we're loving providing moodier scenes in glitzy spaces. Either way, LA's 3 best new bar openings for summer 2017 are all excellent spots for grabbing a nice cocktail and some bites, enjoying the #vibes, and celebrating the summer.
1. Filifera, Hollywood
This beautiful rooftop bar atop the 22nd floor of the Hollywood Proper Residences stirred up little fanfare before it's seemingly sudden opening in May. But with an amazing view of Hollywood, a rooftop pool, a full bar of craft cocktails, and small bites like crudité and charcuterie, Filifera Hollywood has garnered plenty of positive attention since. The multifunctional rooftop is a chill place for residents to hang during the day, and livens up during the evening with private cabanas in a Kelly Wearstler-designed space full of black and white stripes and mid-century modern chairs and tables. Reservations are required, but you can make them here!
2. Mama Lion, Koreatown
Positioning itself as a social hub and sanctuary getaway for congregating, drinking, and enjoying high-end food and drinks, Mama Lion is a modern supper club that recently (re)opened its doors in Koreatown. The glitzy mid-century modern space is by owner Robert Kim in partnership with Chef Michael Hung (of Faith & Flower and Viviane), who flipped it from an old KTown nightclub into a fresh new concept (without changing the name). Aidan Demarest, previously of Seven Grand, 1886 Bar, and The Spare Room is at the helm of the bar program, with 13 unique cocktails that are refreshing takes on traditional drinks. The menu contains an array of shared plates, raw items, and desserts that all reflect the forward-thinking style of the Chef and his unique fusion of cuisines and flavors. Overall, Mama Lion is a luxe, upscale spot perfect for a glam night out.
3. 18 Social @ Hotel Indigo, Downtown LA
With the success of spots like 71 Above, it was only a matter of time before Downtown received a few more elevated bars and restaurants. The newest of which is 18 Social, the penthouse cocktail lounge at DTLA's brand new Hotel Indigo. Sleek and modern, 18 Social boasts sweeping views of Downtown (and the rest of LA) as well as a prohibition era vibe, while offering classic cocktails and a variety of beer and wine. Come by for a drink after work, and stay for the relaxed atmosphere and amazing views!
