There are few things that I must wear everyday. On the shortlist includes concealer and mascara (I'm happy to forgo foundation, eyeliner, and the works), my daily assortment of delicate rings and bracelets, and I almost always leave the house wearing perfume. I somehow feel naked without a few mists of a pretty little scent, which keep my mood lifted and keep me feeling sophisticated and polished all day long. While I've been racking up quite the perfume collection, lately I've been cycling through a small group of of-the-moment favorites depending on my mood, ranging from light and airy to deep, rich florals.
1. Jo Malone, "Star Magnolia" Cologne : I've been a Jo Malone fan for years, so every new release invokes a fresh sense of excitement and yearning. One of their limited edition scents for Spring, Star Magnolia is a delicate mix of white blossoms, orange blossom, lemon, ginger, and shiso. It's a sweet and flirty scent, and great for everyday use.
2. Jo Malone, "Velvet Rose & Oud" Cologne : Like I said...huge Jo Malone fan. When I want something a bit richer (maybe for a date night or upscale party), their Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense does the trick. A sensual combination of dark damask rose with smoky oud wood and a bit of clove makes this quite a luxe scent.
3. The Harmonist, "Metal Flower": The Harmonist isn't simply a perfume line; it's an experience. And it was unlike any I've ever had while shopping. I popped into their boutique on Melrose for The Harmonist Experience, which included a personalized profile that identifies my element based on the philosophies of harmony, and matches me to scents. I chose "Metal Flower," which is supposed to inspire creativity in all my ventures. All of their scents were fantastic, but this one immediately attracted me as it is a delicate and elegant scent goldsmith with petals. A combination of Absolute Rose, Bulgarian Rose, and Red Peppercorn, with Patchouli and
silken Musk, Ylang Ylang Moheli and Orange Blossom. It's completely addictive.
4. By Rosie Jane, "Rosie": I've already talked about this local apothecary brand at length, and I always come back to it for good reason. Their small-batch scents are lovely and simple, and I store their rollerballs in my bag and car so I always have a nice on-the-go fragrance. Rosie, the namesake scent, is one of my favorites, and another scent grounded in rose, nude musk, and a bit of vanilla, yet manages to remain light and not overly floral. Another lovely everyday scent.
