As you may know, I've been giving a lot of thought to not just the food I put in my body, but also to the products I use on my body. Staying away from harsh, drying ingredients has become an important part of my beauty routine, and recently, essential for warding off parched skin and strands during these drier months. A with color-treated hair (confession time...I may not be entirely a natural blonde), finding the right haircare routine makes a huge difference when it comes to preserving those pricey highlights. So when I heard about Hair Food, a line of hair products dedicated to using nutrition and power foods to nourish your tresses, I was immediately intrigued.
Though Hair Food carries quite a few different collections aimed at solving different hair woes (dryness, volume, etc), I was, of course, drawn to their Sulfate Free Color Protect Shampoo and Conditioner. The products tick all my go-to boxes: sulfate free? Check. Paraben free? Check. Free of mineral oil, gluten, and dyes? Check, check, and check! The Hair Food Sulfate Free Color Protect collection is meant to gently cleanse and condition color treated hair for some serious shine, featuring fragrances inspired by white nectarine and pear. And after trying it out, I have to admit...I was not disappointed. First of all, the white nectarine and pear scent is heavenly, and though fragrance isn't a deal breaker, it's certainly a lovely perk. The shampoo didn't foam up heavily when lathering; while this sounds like a negative, to me, it actually means it is free of those foaming detergent ingredients that are particularly harsh, instead cleansing it gently but effectively. Finally, after using both the shampoo and conditioner, my hair felt soft and clean when I got out of the shower, not rigid and straw-like (an unfortunate sensation caused by most shampoos these days).
After trying out so many shampoos that totally stripped my hair of moisture and color, I can honestly say the Hair Food Sulfate Free Color Protect Shampoo and Conditioner have easily become part of my daily haircare routine. The products allow me to cleanse my hair with products I know don't ruin my hair or my color. It feels great to finally use hair products that match the nourishing, ingredient-driven ethos of my skincare routine. I'm excited to continue using them, and reap the benefits of healthy, beautiful looking hair.
