My previous trips to Catalina were usually school related-- softball tournaments, outdoor education trips-- so I never really thought of Catalina as a getaway destination until I was recently invited to go by Osea Malibu. Since I'm already a huge fan of Osea's non-toxic, locally based products, having the chance to enjoy one of their facials at the Catalina Island Spa was absolutely a no-brainer for me. I packed up, drove to Long Beach, hopped on the Catalina Express (dramamine on hand, of course), and arrived in no time. I was immediately taken aback by how beautiful the island is; Avalon is a relatively small town, but it's incredibly charming, and you just can't beat their beachside views. I walked (walked!) from the ferry to The Pavilion Hotel, a lovely boutique hotel overlooking the water, where I stayed for the evening. I enjoyed a really great dinner at the upscale Avalon Grille, and had a pretty low-key night.
The next morning, I was up bright and early for a day of pampering at the spa. Just off the main drag, the spa was walking distance from the hotel, and I took my time stopping in some of the local shops and grabbing a coffee on my way. I was really blown away by how nice the spa is; it's a nice size, with a pool, jacuzzi, rooftop deck, treatment rooms, and treatment suites as well. In the ladies locker room, there was a steam room and sauna, and the spa has a cafe serving some light lunch bites. Of course, I received the Osea facial, which was great. The aesthetician was very good, clearly having a strong understanding of skin and she was able to recognize what mine needed. She cleansed, exfoliated, extracted, masked, and then layered on serums, moisturizer, and SPF before sending me on my way. A few favorite products that she used on me included the Ocean Cleansing Mudd (which had a nice peppermint tingle to it) and the White Algae Mask for brightening and anti-aging.
After my spa day, I checked out and boarded the ferry to Long Beach. Bye Catalina!
Though it was quick, my trip to Catalina was honestly a lot of fun! It was a pretty chill, low-key trip, but what else could you ask for in a spa vacation? I loved both the spa and facial, and would definitely consider coming back when I need a night away for some pampering.
Thank you to Osea and the Catalina Island Company for partnering with me!
