It has been well-documented on this blog that Fall/Winter is my favorite time of year. Sartorially speaking, the looks, sounds, and feels of this season always seem the most pronounced: a sumptuous coat elegantly draped over the shoulders, the layering of a cozy cashmere sweater, the swish of a scarf as you toss it around your neck. But the transition into cooler temps wouldn't be complete without the season's line-up of covetable coverings for your feet. Yes, SHOES. No winter outfit is really ready without some very special footwear, and breaking out all of my trusty boots and booties, calf hair pumps, and velvet flats makes every day feel like the holidays. This year, there are 5 styles in particular from Donald J Pliner that I've been unabashedly eyeing for months and finally managed to get my hands on (or rather, get on my feet).Read more
Need I say more? The temps have barely started to dip below 80 (we did have a nice breezy week recently), but I'm already sporting my favorite leather jacket (and sweating), cycling through my booties (and sweating), and even approaching long-sleeve button-down territory (and sweating). Well, some of them are new at least. I'm sure you recognize my favorite (aka: only) burgundy hat, which I will be putting to good use to shade my face for the rest of the sunny season. Recently, I acquired these new Amo Babe jeans to add to my collection of Amo denim favorites; the high-waisted cut is definitely on-trend, and while they're supposed to fit a bit more like a straight leg, they're snug like a skinny jean on me (which I think I prefer-- the straight leg trend doesn't work as well on my 5'2" frame). And since I can't get enough knit turtlenecks, this sleeveless, white style from Vince will definitely be an everyday essential this season.Read more
Like the off-the-shoulder and choker trends, the culotte is still going strong as we move into Summer. And as much as I love the black pair that got me through Fall and Winter, it's time to move onto something a bit lighter for the new season. With a paper bag waist and black and white stripes, this offering from Banana Republic is considerably lighter and feels fresh and fun. Since the culottes carry the look, I kept the rest simple, with a classic white tee, summer appropriate denim jacket, and some lace-up sandals.Read more
I'll admit it. I'm a quitter.
Usually, quitting isn't lauded as a positive development in life. Since we're kids, we're told never to give up. Never quit. Grit your teeth, get through it, and finish what you started. We didn't raise a quitter. We don't accept quitters. It's one of the ultimate insults that you can bestow on those with self-respect, passion, and drive.
But sometimes quitting is necessary. It allows you to make a change. To move on. To end something that is bringing you down or keeping you from achieving your goals.
In October 2015, I became a quitter. And I'm so glad I did.Read more
