5 Places To Eat With The Girls // Spring 2019

Who said going out in LA is just for date nights? As much as you might love your bae, let’s be real; having time with your friends to catch up on each others’ lives is super important. And of course, you want to find a place that’s cute, fun, serves good food, and has plenty of booze. Here are some of our recent faves for a meal with the girls:

3 New Lunch Spots to Check Out This Week (And Weekend)

Now that most of us have already abandoned our New Years diet resolutions, it’s time to once again enjoy our meals. But one meal that is one of the hardest to enjoy? The work lunch: a typically rushed affair that is also probably taking place in front of your computer screen with your headphones still on. There’s also the added bonus of restaurant fatigue; you’ve probably eaten at every restaurant near your office a thousand times, and you’re tired of taking the same sad paper bag lunch to work everyday. So why not change up your routine with a few fresh lunch options?

Atrium : The Los Feliz Stunner That Will Banish Your Winter Blues

By now, chances are you’ve probably heard of Atrium. The stunning Los Feliz restaurant opened in the Fall of last year and has quickly become one of the hottest tickets in town. From the restaurateurs of Silverlake’s Sawyer and Kettle Black, Atrium boasts food from chef Hunter Pritchett, who focuses on SoCal flavors for unique takes on local favorites; a Grilled Cauliflower Shawarma evokes LA’s love of Israeli and Middle Eastern flavors, but with a veggie-friendly preparation, while a classic Beef Carpaccio is transformed into a carne asada with avocado crema, crispy potatoes, and salsa macha. Diners enter through a subtle-yet-sexy alleyway into a space with exposed brick, plush booths, and some lovely greenery. With its grand, warehouse-meets-mid-century-modern design and namesake atrium, it’s a bright, fun spot to ride out those winter blues.

Eat. Here. Now : Sushi Note in Sherman Oaks

As much as we love some of LA’s glitzy and glamorous sushi restaurants, sometimes you just want to stop at that hole-in-the-wall, neighborhood restaurant where you can sit at the bar and have an excellent meal. The San Fernando Valley in particular is filled with them— some of them even inspire Westsiders and Eastsiders to actually make the “trek” (their words, never mine) to get their sushi fix. And the new Sushi Note in Sherman Oaks is definitely one of those trek-worthy restaurants, though I’d hesitate to call it a hole-in-the-wall sushi joint. Petite it may be, but the relaxed mid-century modern design lends it the impact of a much larger space, firmly cementing it as both a casual neighborhood restaurant and upscale spot where you can expect to find excellent food. The bar serves what, in LA, is a reasonably priced $80 omakase by Chef Kiminobu Saito, for which you will receive edamame, miso soup, an appetizer, ten pieces of sushi, and a hand roll. Additionally, Sushi Note boasts an impressive wine list, so come hungry and thirsty!

Eat. Here. Now : Mrs. Fish in Downtown LA

LA is a city known for our sushi. From the very high end omakase to strip mall sushi in the valley to the Sugarfish empire, it’s pretty much all amazing. The one sushi category that LA seems to lack though are high-end, glamorous joints. Sure, you can get $200/person omakase at a little sushi bar, but where can you go when you really want to put on the ritz? In the early aughts, these glamorous, celeb-filled spots reigned supreme (who else remembers Geisha House in Hollywood?), and now Downtown LA is bringing them back with the new Mrs. Fish. Formerly a nightclub tucked into a basement below rooftop bar, Perch, Mrs. Fish has recently been given a new lease on life, flipping into a moody, mid-century modern sushi den driven by Japanese whiskey cocktails and its own omakase experience.
