3 New Lunch Spots to Check Out This Week (And Weekend)

Now that most of us have already abandoned our New Years diet resolutions, it’s time to once again enjoy our meals. But one meal that is one of the hardest to enjoy? The work lunch: a typically rushed affair that is also probably taking place in front of your computer screen with your headphones still on. There’s also the added bonus of restaurant fatigue; you’ve probably eaten at every restaurant near your office a thousand times, and you’re tired of taking the same sad paper bag lunch to work everyday. So why not change up your routine with a few fresh lunch options?

Try Great White in Venice For a Healthy, Casual Lunch

Sometimes it can be exhausting living in the land of the health conscious. Did I really need to spend $20 on a coconut milk iced latte and a green juice? Probably not. Do I regret my decision? No, never when coffee is involved. But there are definite benefits to this lifestyle, the first being that healthy or intolerance-conscious food is relatively easy to come by. The second is that said healthy food can be pretty tasty, well-thought out, and served from a nice spot in a cool neighborhood. And Great White, Venice's new healthy cafe, ticks all these "healthy food" boxes. Opening in September on Pacific across the street from the iconic hanging "Venice" sign, Great White is a perfect fit for the local surf crowd, offering all-day favorites from avocado toast to fish tacos and smoothie bowls. The small space is minimal and bright, with an open patio space that's lovely on sunny days.

Chez Tex : A New, Modern Neighborhood Spot in Venice

I really never get tired of brunch. Whether it's at a trendy West Hollywood bar-turned-daytime-eatery or lox and bagels at the corner deli, I love taking my time on the weekends and having a huge, filling meal in the middle of the afternoon. And when said meal takes place at a spot close enough to the ocean to get that lovely breeze and sunny weather, I'm definitely in. Currently, that spot is the new Chez Tex, a casual, neighborhood restaurant on the popular Main Street in Venice. Unlike most of Venice's airy, colorful locales, Chez Tex is modern, minimalistic, and even slightly moody, but only in decor; the atmosphere is upbeat yet laid-back, welcoming guests into a trendy, gallery-like space serving Cali-French cuisine. Their menu has all of your necessary brunch fare, like French Toast and a Brunch Sandwich, with a few lighter options as well, like the very Venice-friendly Grain Bowl. With a small, intimate space, beautiful design, and approachable menu, Chez Tex is the kind of neighborhood brunch option that everyone will enjoy.

10 "Veteran" Restaurants That Are Still Awesome

Restaurants come and go, and hotspots are born on a weekly basis. We've been saddened by the closure of many new, promising eateries-- often within a year of opening-- like MaruGardner Junction, and Brilliantshine (can you believe that it's already been two years since I first reviewed it?!). And yet with the right location, an excellent menu, approachable space, and just a bit of luck, some restaurants are able to weather that 1-year storm, remaining relevant and vital for years to come. They may not be the newest scenes in town, but they undoubtedly still offer excellent meals to hip, trendy, food-loving Angelenos.

LA Finally Embraces Late Night Food with Nighthawk

The Breakfast Bar whose stay in Hollywood was brief (but not insignificant) just reopened in Venice, not far from the bustling Abbot Kinney or Main St., and has already capitalized on the city's lack of late-night eateries. Offering the exact kind of slutty breakfast food of your drunken college dreams, Nighthawk is the ideal place for a pre-bar-hopping meal or a great spot for ending your night when those drunchies inevitably hit.
