3 New Lunch Spots to Check Out This Week (And Weekend)

Now that most of us have already abandoned our New Years diet resolutions, it’s time to once again enjoy our meals. But one meal that is one of the hardest to enjoy? The work lunch: a typically rushed affair that is also probably taking place in front of your computer screen with your headphones still on. There’s also the added bonus of restaurant fatigue; you’ve probably eaten at every restaurant near your office a thousand times, and you’re tired of taking the same sad paper bag lunch to work everyday. So why not change up your routine with a few fresh lunch options?

Where To Have an Upscale Dinner in Palm Springs : 4 Saints @ The Kimpton Rowan

Palm Springs is a notoriously casual place. Between festival-goers walking around in their cut-off shorts and retirees in their laid-back Sunday attire, most restaurants and events don't exactly boast any sort of upscale dress code. Which is why the arrival of the new Kimpton Rowan fills a big void in the Palm Springs scene. The new hotel is pretty luxurious, boasting a lobby lounge, rooftop poolside bar, and rooftop restaurant, 4 Saints. From Chef Stephen Wambach (whose resume includes stints at some of NYC's top restaurants, gigs around the world, and the responsibility of running the culinary program for the Four Seasons), 4 Saints is a beautiful, modern marvel overlooking the San Jacinto mountains. We had the pleasure of sampling from the Chef's small plates menu, which features global flavors with a Mediterranean flare.

Umi By Hamasaku : For Your Sushi Fix in El Segundo

Other than its close proximity to the ocean, there aren't many reasons why El Segundo would be THE neighborhood that Angelenos associate with great sushi. Which is probably why it's such a coup to have the sister restaurant of one of West LA's great sushi spots, Hamasaku, who late last year opened Umi by Hamasaku at the chic new development, "The Point." Though the original location focuses on sashimi and omakase, this bigger, beautiful, and more modern space focuses on seafood izakaya in addition to sushi. From partners Jesse Duron, chef Yoya Takahashi and owner Michael Ovitz, the restaurant is currently open for lunch and dinner, additionally offering seasonal shared plates and, of course, omakase. We popped by for an early lunch and got to sample a bit of everything.

Modern Mexican Cuisine and a Scenic Outdoor Patio at Verlaine in West Hollywood

We all know that West Hollywood is home to many of the city's best hotspots. So when a new restaurant opens in the area with a lauded Chef, modern outdoor patio, and location next to another hotspot, we pay attention. By renowned Latin American chef Diego Hernandez, Verlaine opened in the old Dominick's space this past Spring, presenting West Hollywood with a new space to eat, drink, and be seen. But in case you think this spot is all scene and no substance, think again. The restaurant is decidedly ambitious, crafting both an impressive bar program and a menu that's undoubtedly a departure from our typical choices of tableside guacamole and crispy tacos. And after experiencing a few growing pains when they first opened (which lead to a mixed review from LA Weekly's Besha Rodell), the Chef and management team have recommitted themselves to improving all aspects of the food and service.
